We窶å\x86³e ending the year with a bang! Over a hundred pull\nrequests were merged this month, including several from first-time\ncontributors as well as many familiar names. Following up on the\nwork last month, two more Casio Phase Distortion synthesisers have\nbeen added: the high-end CZ-1 keyboard and the unreleased MZ-1\nmodule. The Yamaha MU50 XG tone generator module is also working\na lot better in this release.\n\nTwo home consoles with drawing features are now working: LJN窶å\x86±\nVideoArt from 1987 and Sega窶å\x86± Advanced Pico BEENA from 2005. Although\nthey were both positioned as intellectually stimulating consoles\nfor children and both had drawing features, they couldn窶å\x86² be more\ndifferent. The VideoArt was universally derided for its poor controls\nand lack of entertainment value, drawing negative comparisons to\nthe popular Etch-a-Sketch toy. On the other hand, the BEENA was a\nhigh-quality device using media combining a ROM cartridge with a\npicture book, and featured dual pen digitisers. Its ARM CPU is\nfairly demanding to emulate in MAME, so you窶å\x86¤l need a fast PC to\nrun it at full speed. We窶å\x86³e aware that the current scans of the\npicture books are not perfect, but it窶å\x86± still quite usable apart\nfrom some peripherals that aren窶å\x86² emulated yet.\n\nOn a completely different note, some of the Taito gambling and\nmedal games have started to come to life. The purpose of the games\nis to separate you from your money, and there isn窶å\x86² much gameplay\nvalue, but they窶å\x86³e still interesting to see. Some of them feature\ncharacters from popular Taito franchises. Speaking of gambling\ngames, a couple of Chinese-language mahjong gambling games from\nBMC have been dumped.\n\nSystems with AVR8 CPUs now run up to 50% faster, including the\nUzebox console, Linus ï¾\x83kesson demos, and the homebrew Sega Master\nSystem paddle controller. A means of dumping the microcontrollers\nJaleco used for protection in some Mega System 1 games has been\ndiscovered recently, allowing the protection simulation code to be\nretired for 64th St. - A Detective Story and Big Striker. Our\nunderstanding of the gate array protection used for some other\nJaleco games has also improved. The internal Super A'Can now has\nits main CPU窶å\x86± internal ROM hooked up properly, improving the\naccuracy of its boot process.\n\nOf course, there窶å\x86± far more in this release than we have time to\ntalk about here, including newly dumped Korean versions of arcade\ngames, bootlegs from Spain, support for PDS cards on the Mac\nQuadra/LC 630 family, more Heathkit Terminal Logic Board variants,\nand lots of new software list items.\n" module: pkgsrc subject: 'CVS commit: pkgsrc/emulators/mame' unixtime: '1702126931' user: wiz
