update to 0.15.1
This is a major update - from the announcement:
24/32 bit support, audio archive support (bz2/iso9660/zip), all config
entries are completely optional now, multiple and pulseaudio mixer
support, new audio playing modes (consume, etc..), sticker database,
improved tag parsing of all types and too many interesting highlights left
out of this list

pkgsrc notes:
Archive support isn't enabled yet (disabled per default upstream),
neither is pulseaudio support,
just kept the functionality of the previous version.
I didn't find out what libcue does for flac support -- album FLACs
work well for me without that, so I've left it out for now.

(obache)

2009-07-27 12:59:45 UTC MAIN commitmail json YAML

Update irssi to 0.8.13 (and bump pkgrevision irssi-icb).
Also contains security fix for CVE-2009-1959 (patch-ab).
Based on patch provided by Leonardo Taccari in PR 41785.

ChangeLog for 0.8.13
Features:

    * Reject some obviously invalid values in /set.
    * Add perl bindings for Window::get_history_lines
    * Use an io channel to write the config file.
    * Use memory slices instead of memory chunks for text buffer.
    * Remove methods to create/destroy TextBuffer and TextBufferView and low
      level api to add/remove lines, scripts should be fine using
      Window::print_after and TextBufferView::remove_line.
    * Add print_after method to Window perl object analogous to
      gui_printtext_after but which also expands formats and forces a full line.
    * Better mapping of signal parameters to Perl. All signals used in scripts
      now need to be registered with Irssi::signal_register.
    * Add public header with interfaces to manage statusbar items (bug #535)
    * Recode: assume utf-8 encoding for an ascii string in which no escape
      character occurs (bug #392).
    * Allow /BAN, /UNBAN, /KICBAN, /KNOCKOUT if channel is not synced.
      Requesting ban lists from an unsynced channel will ask them from the
      server, banning a user whose u@h irssi does not know will ban nick!*@* and
      only bans irssi knows about can be removed.
    * Allow storing multiple "other" prefixes such as +q and +a (original patch
      by JasonX)
    * Add /set autolog_ignore_targets for cherry-picking targets that shouldn't
      get logged.
    * Add support for 16 colors. Formats KBGCRMYW and mirc colors are now mapped
      to colors 8-15. fe-text translates colors 8-15 to bold/blink+0-7 if the
      terminal supports only 8 colors. If your theme uses one of the high color
      formats and you really want bold you can change %FMT<string> to %fmt%_%_,
      it will work fine in all irssi versions.
    * Better 005 PREFIX support (bug #580).
    * Display 407 numerics other than "duplicate channel".
    * Fix display of ratbox-style operspy whois.
    * Recode outgoing irc away messages (bug #412).
    * Recode outgoing irc quit messages.
    * Remove scrollback_levelclear_levels setting and add a 'level' option to
      'sb levelclear' to specify a comma separated list of levels.
    * Add perl __WARN__ handler for scripts (bug #427).
    * Add Irssi::command_parse_options function to parse options for a command.
    * Revert recode changes introduced in 0.8.12.
    * Add completion for /WINDOW SERVER.
    * Support for reading kicks/msgs from TARGMAX/MAXTARGETS 005 tokens.
    * Enhancements to the redirections code.
    * Support for RPL_WHOISACTUALLY (338 numeric) for both ratbox and ircu
      (bug #428).
    * -idle option of /notify is gone.
    * /layout save now makes window-channel bindings instantly effective
      (bug #35).
    * /ping without arguments does not send anymore a ctcp ping to a channel
      (bug #542).
    * Track IRC operator status of nicks a bit better.
    * new 'actlist_names' option to add active items names in 'act' statusbar
      item.
    * new 'word_completion_backward' command to scroll backwards in the
      completion list.
    * add 'list' option to /bind to print all the available commands.
    * show setter/time in +I lists
    * apply -usermode before -autosendcmd (bug #548).
    * reduce memory usage of the scrollback buffer and make the display in /sb
      status more accurate (higher).
    * fix data getting dropped when a lot is sent at a time (e.g. when attaching
      to irssi-proxy, bug #528).
    * introduce the type Irssi::Irc::Client and signals to communicate with
      proxy clients to allow for scripting parts of the irssi-proxy.
    * Add sb_search.pl, a script for /SCROLLBACK SEARCH

Bugfixes:

    * Fix /NOTIFY list when nick is seen joining (bug #642).
    * Include hostmask in 001 event sent by proxy (bug #650).
    * Be more power-friendly: don't run any always-on <1s timers (bug #641).
    * Don't get confused by a failed /JOIN -window (bug #644).
    * Properly initialize embedded Perl (PERL_SYS_INIT3).
    * Replace invalid utf-8 bytes with U+FFFD when drawing a line.
    * Properly unload the original script when using /script load to reload it.
      (bug #525, patch by Lukas Mai)
    * Clean up script loading in general:
      * Don't leak local variables to eval'd code.
      * Set filename/line number to get better error messages from perl.
      * Use three-arg open and lexical filehandles to avoid surprises.
      * Include error reason in message for unopenable scripts.
      * Don't wrap script code in sub handler { } - this avoids spurious
warnings and should at least allow __END__ to work properly. (Patch by
Lukas Mai)
    * Fix NETSPLIT_SERVER_REC in signals for Perl.
    * Remove buggy /SCROLLBACK redraw and /SET scrollback_save_formats.
    * Always preserve the active mainwindow when resizing.
    * Ignore DNS not found errors when considering reconnect.
    * Do not strip the comma in a mirc color if it is not followed by a digit
      (bug #250).
    * Fix building perl module with perl-5.10 (bug #630).
    * fix leak with $L expando.
    * fix possible crash with /script reset.
    * ignore exceptions take precedence over ignores in all cases.
    * honour -channels preference for ignore -replies (bug #227).
    * Fix mode display in whois with unreal (379 numeric) (bug #479).
    * Fix regressions that prevented external modules from building/working
      (bugs #537 #539).
    * Fix /set hilight_level not taking effect immediately (bug #598).
    * Fix bold, blinking and indentation in /LASTLOG and buf.pl.

Import ps2pkm-1.5 as fonts/ps2pkm.

ps2pk is a tool that converts a PostScript type1 font into a
corresponding TeX PK font.  The tool is especially interesting if you
want to use fully hinted type1 fonts in your DVI previewer (instead of
the unhinted type1 fonts currently used in GhostScript) or on a
printer that has no PostScript interpreter.

Import gsftopkk-1.19.2 as fonts/gsftopkk.

gsftopk is a program that uses Ghostscript to render PostScript fonts
(including mock-ups of the ``built-in'' 35; e.g., Times-Roman) and
convert the bitmaps to .pk format for use with xdvi or other .dvi
viewers.  Contrary to what its name may suggest, gsftopk can handle
all types of fonts acceptable to Ghostscript, including .pfa, .pfb,
and .ttf (TrueType) files.

gsftopkk is the same basic program, modified to work with Karl Berry's
Kpathsea path-searching library.

update brasero to 2.26.3
changes: minor bugfixes, translation updates

pkgsrc changes:
-in scsi io code, remove the code which builds a raw device path
from a block device - use the raw_device hal property instead
-split out the nautilus plugin, allows to use brasero (and its
clients, eg sound-juicer) with less gnome desktop overhead
-support playlist parsing as an option -- unfortunately this
pulls in evolution-data-server indirectly which is pretty large
for that limited gain of functionality (on per default, as in
other pkgs able to use the evolution database)
-cleanup

Update zziplib to 0.13.56.

Major change since 0.10.x:

There were some problematic zip files out there that can trigger
segfaults in 0.10.x.  Later zzip file decoders have extra checks and
helper routines for that.

Update p5-Moose from version 0.87 to version 0.88.

Upstream changes:
0.88 Fri Jul 24, 2009
    * Moose::Manual::Contributing
      - Re-write the Moose::Manual::Contributing document to reflect
        the new layout and methods of work for the Git repository. All
        work now should be done in topic branches and reviewed by a
        core committer before being applied to master. All releases
        are done by a cabal member and merged from master to
        stable. This plan was devised by Yuval, blame him. (perigrin)

    * Moose::Meta::Role
      - Create metaclass attributes for the different role application
        classes.  (rafl)

    * Moose::Util::MetaRole
      - Allow applying roles to a meta role's role application
        classes. (rafl)

    * Moose::Meta::Attribute
      - Add weak_ref to allowed options for "has '+foo'" (mst)

    * Moose::Meta::Method::Accessor
      - No longer uses inline_slot_access in accessors, to support
        non-lvalue-based meta instances. (sorear)

2009-07-26 07:04:05 UTC MAIN commitmail json YAML

Update p5-Class-MOP from version 0.89 to version 0.90.

pkgsrc changes:
- More build dependencies (for test target)

Upstream changes:
0.90 Tue Jul 21, 2009
    Japan Perl Association has sponsored Goro Fuji to improve startup
    performance of Class::MOP and Moose. These enhancements may break
    backwards compatibility if you're doing (or using) complex
    metaprogramming, so, as always, test your code!
    http://blog.perlassociation.org/2009/07/jpa-sponsors-moose-class-mop-work.html

    * Class::MOP::Class
    * XS
      - Anonymous classes were not completely destroyed when they went
        out of scope, leading to a memory leak. RT #47480. (Goro
        Fuji).

    * Class::MOP::Class
      - The get_method, has_method, and add_method methods no longer
        use get_method_map. Method objects are instantiated
        lazily. This significantly improves Class::MOP's load
        time. (Goro Fuji)

    * All classes
      - Inline fewer metaclass-level constructors since the ones we
        have are perfectly fine. This reduces the number of string
        evals. (Goro Fuji)

    * Class::MOP::Method::Wrapped
      - If a method modifier set $_, this caused the modifier to blow
        up, because of some weird internals. (Jeremy Stashewsky)

Source Changes
--------------
DIPSW update [kanikani]
- fixed default setting of jjsquawk, marked the game as
    IMPERFECT_SOUND, and added some notes
- added DIPLOCATION for toypop and liblrabl

Intel 8255A PPI:
- Added a new implementation of the I8255A device. Rewritten from
    scratch to properly support handshaking in modes 1 and 2.

Added mechanism for the laserdisc core to return 0 for the philips
codes if video is squelched. Updated the Gottlieb and Cliff Hanger
drivers to request it this way, since they decode externally.
[Aaron Giles]

Made a couple of minor tweaks to the Cliff Hanger driver. Fixed
interrupt timing (was not taking into account interlacing) to fix up
glitches in playback and ensure the disk test passes. Added SHA1 and
marked the game as working. [Aaron Giles]

Promoted Final Lap 2 & Final Lap 3 to working since they just require
to init their analog controls (same sequence as Final Lap R).
[Angelo Salese]

Added basic support in bitmap.c for 64-bit indexed bitmaps. As a
result, you will need a full recompile with this change, since the
bitmap formats enum was altered. [Aaron Giles]

Introduced new feature -burnin, which can be used to generate a PNG
that represents the overall brightness seen during the course of
running a game. This PNG can be used as a fake "bezel" that overlays
the screen via the artwork systems (with a low alpha, say 0.1 or 0.2)
to simulate running a game with a monitor that has been burned in
from another game. [Aaron Giles]

Fixed the -crsshairpath option to be spelled properly. [Aaron Giles]

Made pr8210 serial processing a little more robust. [Aaron Giles]

v2 bios are working correct now (idectrl.c / idectrl.h) & taitogn.c.
[Joerg Hartenberger]

Further improvements for Shogun Warriors:
[David Haywood, Tomasz Slanina]
-- decoded tables for several of the startup commands, made some
  observations, was unable to properly decode table 0x80, second byte
  scrambling is .. odd, so just using extract data right now.
-- properly mapped inputs in Shogun Warriors
-- decodes a block of data used by the Japanese version (fjbuster)
  for the character select screen. Basically block 0x40 is the same
  as mcu block/table 0x41, but using different encryption (inline
  encryption table + additional overlay table instead of each byte
  being bit shifted)

Updated Jockey Club II notes. [David Haywood, Gerald]

Verified Fruits & Bunny PROM. [f205v]

Added new split tool that can be used for splitting giant files
with per-file hashes and without corrupting them. [Aaron Giles]

Removed a kludge from Sengoku Mahjong sound comms [Angelo Salese]

K053936 cleanup and some improvements for Racin' Force [David Haywood]

Marked siseikat prg rom as bad dump. [Angelo Salese]

Added very basic SCC68070 implementation, currently is just a basic
m68k with 32-bits of address lines. The plan is to add the on-chip
peripherals on the magicard.c driver then, when I get some
consistency, hardwire it to the cpu core. [Angelo Salese]

Better fix for Amiga AGA ddf_stop_pixel, to avoid breaking Amiga 1200
startup screen. [Mariusz Wojcieszek]

Fixed Cubo CD32 framerate to 50 [Mariusz Wojcieszek]

Confirmed Last Duel sets and changed to use genuine GFX ROMs
[Team Japump]

Marked vf3tb CROM0 ROMs as BAD_DUMP (they should be 4MB). Updated game
status notes. [Phil Bennett]

Allow skeetsht to put some gfxs. [Angelo Salese]

SCC68070: hooked up basic registers in the memory map. [Angelo Salese]

* Readme / PCB layout [Guru]
* Corrected rom labels and added PCB locations to Mad Gear / LED
    Storm sets [Brian Troha]

model3: masked CROM bank, fixes missing gfx in several games.
[R. Belmont]

Adds DIP port locations to Last Duel & Mad Gear sets. [Brian Troha]

Added redumped vf3tb ROMs [Guru]

Tokimeki Mahjong Paradise driver improvements:
- split tmmjprd / tmpdoki from rabbit.c as it uses the graphic chip
    in a very different way, and having them together was making it
    more difficult to make progress on [David Haywood]
- changed them to use custom rendering code instead of tilemaps, as
    they can address tile data at a sub-tile level, this fixes the
    girls in the intro [David Haywood]
- added inputs [Angelo Salese]
- added some notes about a hang, and possible reason [David Haywood]
- marked the graphic roms of tmpdoki as BAD as it appears to be
    using tiles which are not present in the tmmjprd roms for the
    title screen [David Haywood]

ARM (26-bit): TST/TEQ should only update flags. This eliminates the
need for patches in poizone/ertictac, all deco32 games still run
(including hvysmsh), and it better matches the documentation.
[R. Belmont]

Updated the Led Storm Rally 2011 set with the new roms as per the
Guru's info. Marked this game as GAME_IPERFECT_GRAPHICS due to the
bad sprite ect. [Brian Troha]

Corrected p911uc compact flash dump by Guru. [Angelo Salese]

Added fade in/fade out effects for tmmjprd [Angelo Salese]

Document the Pacman on Tecmo World Cup '90 hardware. Lists the roms
plus CRC32 / SHA1 in the comment section to prevent it from turning
up as a newly "found" game and to show users MAME is aware of it
existence. [Brian Troha]

Add gun I/O board to Teraburst and hook up 68k/PPC comms. Not sure how
the guns are read yet but this fixes the CALL ATTENDENT immediate
death and the game runs fine now. [R. Belmont]

Changes to support address maps for arbitrary devices: [Aaron Giles]

- Moved address_map array from cpu_config to device_config. Added MDRV
  macros in the device for specifying address maps. Changed the memory
  system to fetch the maps from the new location.

- Moved the address-space related get_info constants to devintrf
  (including endianness). Removed space array from the CPU class
  header. Made the memory system much more device-neutral. Various
  other cleanups along the way.

- Expanded address maps from 3 to 4. Moved ADDRESS_SPACE_PROGRAM/DATA/
  IO constants to cpuintrf, as those names are really only applicable
  to CPUs. Added new ADDRESS_MAP_0/1/2/3 constants to identify address
  maps more generically.

- Updated memory system to be more general about address map handling.
  Added the concept of default address maps (in addition to the
  already existing internal memory maps). The difference between
  internal and default memory maps is that internal memory maps always
  override everything (including user-specified maps), but default
  memory maps simply provide a default that can be overridden.

- Converted the okim6295 sound driver to use address maps for access.
  By default, it defines a ROM address map that overlays its full
  region. As a result, the validity checks require all okim6295
  regions to be at least 256k, unless you provide your own address
  map. Updated all regions to meet this requirement.

- Updated the atarijsa code to use a custom address space for its
  okim6295 accesses (which are banked on the first half and static on
  the second half), as an example of configuring a device with a
  custom address space.

- For now, attempts to use okim6295_set_bank_base() will still work,
  though banking for the okim chips should be moved to custom address
  maps in the drivers eventually. The first time
  okim6295_set_bank_base() is called, it will install a banked memory
  handler over the region and use memory_set_bankptr() to change the
  base on subsequent bank switches.

- Moved address map validity checks to be run for each device instead of
  just each CPU.

Removed PREDECODE_GFX compile flag, as the on-the-fly decoding seems
to be working reliably. Deprecated the ROMREGION_DISPOSE flag, as 98%
of the use of it no longer is applicable with on-the-fly decoding,
and the remaining cases are difficult to identify among the others.
[Aaron Giles]

Documentation updates: [Kevin Eshbach]
* For Super Basketball adds the rom locations for those that were
    missing before and adds the jumper settings
* Documents the SEGA cpu part number for Future Spy and Super Zaxxon

Improved Jockey Club 2 driver organization: [David Haywood]
- added different machine drivers for the different sets.
- added an st0016 to the 'older hardware' machine driver, that's
    what the 'z80' rom on it is for (see st0016.c)  the newer
    hardware and bootleg don't use it.
- still waiting for proper gfx dumps

(obache)

2009-07-25 10:26:17 UTC MAIN commitmail json YAML

Update dnstop to 20090128.
Based on PR 41779 by Fredrik Pettai.

Version 20090128:

I added a new feature to dnstop today that filters on "refused" response codes.
This might be useful in tracking the ongoing DNS-based DDoS attacks.

To use this new feature:

    dnstop -R -f refused eth0

Version 20080321:

The interesting changes came in a patch from Dave Plonka:

      Fixed a bug that cause dnstop to Memory fault when processing
      a DNS packet greater than PCAP_SNAPLEN (previously 1460) bytes
      in size.

      Raised PCAP_SNAPLEN to 65535 to avoid truncating large DNS
      packets.

      Eliminated unnecessary stack buffers and memcpy calls when
      handling packets.

Also some variables have been added to the Makefile at the request
of a packager so that it may be easier to customize where files are
installed, etc.

Import tex-xltxtra-0.4 as print/tex-xltxtra.

The package loads the fixltx2e package from the LaTeX distribution,
and etex.sty from the e-TeX distribution.  The package then patches
the \- (discretionary hyphen command) to use the current hyphen
character (which may be different from than the default, which is the
character at the ASCII hyphen slot), and the \textsuperscript command
(from the LaTeX kernel) and the \textsubscript command (from the
fixltx2e package).  The package also provides parameterised versions
of the "bumpy road" logos for TeX, LaTeX and XeTeX; these versions of
the logos are designed to respond to the font that is being used for
typesetting.

    window
    * added a possibility to update existing bars from config
    * added tooltips to external editors on toolbar, added "load
    config" command to remote control
    * added possibility to update existing layout window from config
    * added function to reload external editors at any time
    * added more IPTC tags
    * implemented editing support in exif pane
    * fixed loading of desktop file icons, gtk seems to expect an
    icon name without extension
    * compute histogram in idle time
    * completely separated global and layout window options, layout
    window configuration is available under separate menu entry
    * do not allow to add keywords with the same name as siblings
    * added keyword tree filtering
    * show file name in advanced_exif
    * handle sidecar files for raw formats that are not known to
    exiv2
    * added a dialog for editing keyword tree
    * added a popup menu in keyword tree
    * Remove the toggle on advanced exif window menu item.
    * Advanced exif window: make all columns sortable and resizable.
    * Display icons in edit contextual menu.
    * In various Edit context menus, only display editors that
    match the file types in the selection.
    * allow dropping of multiple keywords
    * show a label instead of the default drag icon
    * implemented keywords editor as described at
    http://geeqie.wiki.sourceforge.net/keywords
    * Try to improve tab completion: when a key is pressed while
    tab completion menu is shown, the number of entries is reduced,
    dhowing all matching entries but the menu is no more closed
    after each key pressure. Number of possible entries in this
    menu was increased from 500 to 1000. Pressing TAB when path
    entry is empty now adds / (root directory).
    * added popup menu to the exif pane
    * indicate that the exif pane is empty
    * Display pixel coordinates and rgb, patch by Ruben Stein
    * reorder exif pane entries with drag and drop
    * overlay now survives image split
    * Add a directory separator at the end of names in tab completion
    list to indicate directories.
    * Align exif labels vertically (visually better since name is
    now smaller than value).
    * Enable 'Use profile from image' item of color management menu
    only if such profile information is available from image.
    * In the side bar, display the filename without the 'Filename:'
    prefix and makes it centered. Allow to select it for copy'n'paste.
    * Color profiles menu: test for file access before allowing to
    select it as input profile.
    * load icons for external editors
    * split overlay options between global and layout window
    * save and restore toolbar configuration
    * Add an indicator of the embedded color profile when recognized
    (a * just after sRGB or AdobeRGB compatible).
    * Color profiles menu: mark empty entries as inactive.
    * Add a tooltip showing current histogram state on bar histogram.
    * correctly save and restore overlay string
    * Save bar pane histogram state to rc file.
    * Add a contextual menu on bar pane histogram allowing to change
    channels and mode.
    * Drop histogram based on mean value.
    * config file format changed to XML
    * Add grid to bar histogram.
    * Fix bug 2599857: file list sort order was wrong in many cases.
    * separated "normal" and advanced exif, "Normal" exif is now
    in the generic bar, advanced exif is in separate window.
    * replaced bar_info with an universal bar
    * Start with "Fit to window" in "Leave Zoom at previous setting"
    mode
    * do not switch to the next image on mouse click in split mode,
    it interferes with image switching too much.
    * Speed up random slideshow, startup time decreases from minutes
    to seconds when amount of images is big. Patch by Kjell
    Morgenstern.
    * Do not show geeqie itself in editors menus.
    * read external editors from .desktop files
    * Invert Horizontally vs vertically zoom fit, it was a TRUE/FALSE
    mismatch, reported by Christopher Beland.
    * Remove harmful documentation.helpdir and documentation.htmldir
    options. These paths can still be modified through with-readmedir
    and --htmldir configure options. Reported by Christopher Beland.
    * show symlinks in filelist
    * added a status bar button for writting metadata immediately
    * metadata write mode (direct or sidecar) made configurable
    for each file format

* [r22960] ., configure, configure.ac, src/ptlib/unix/osutil.cxx:
  Changed PTimer::Tick() from using gettimeofday (if possible) as
  if an
  RTP time sync daemon is used then the return value of
  PTimer::Tick() can
  leap forward or backward causing problems. It should always be
  simple
  monotonic increasing milliseconds from some arbitrary point,
  exactly as
  provided by clock_gettime() using CLOCK_MONOTONIC. So we use that
  if it
  is available.

2009-06-24 02:20  rjongbloed

* [r22963] src/ptlib/unix/osutil.cxx:
  Fixed incorrect divisor for new clock_gettime version of

  thread
  of the same group ID, or a new worker thread is created

2009-06-26 05:56  rjongbloed

* [r22992] include/ptclib/threadpool.h:

  count limit, cannot just allocate new thread if have new group
  ID.

* [r22629] src/ptclib/url.cxx:
  Fixed "file:" URL handling. While it is never explicitly stated
  anywhere in RFC1798, there is an implication in RFC 1808 that the
  path is absolute unless the relative path rules of that RFC
  apply. We follow that logic.

Update to 1.0.14. From the changelog:

API:
* When using more than one ValueRangeProcessor, QueryParser didn't reset the
  begin and end strings to ignore any changes made by a ValueRangeProcessor
  which returned false, so further ValueRangeProcessors would see any changes
  it had made.  This is now fixed, and test coverage improved.

flint backend:
* Use F_FULLFSYNC where available (Mac OS X currently) to ensure that changes
  have been committed to disk.  (ticket#288)

remote backend:
* Fix handling of percentage weights in various cases when we're searching
  multiple remote databases or a mix of local and remote databases.

OlsonData 2009g

This release contains Olson time zone data version 2009g. For more information, refer to Timezone Data Versions in the JRE Software .

Security Baseline

This update release specifies the following security baseline:
JRE Family Version Java SE
Security Baseline Java SE for Business
Security Baseline 1.4.2 1.4.2_19 1.4.2_20

In December, 2008, Java SE 1.4.2 reached its end of service life with the release of 1.4.2_19. Future revisions of Java SE 1.4.2 (1.4.2_20 and above) include the Access Only option and are available to Java SE for Business subscribers.

For more information about the security baseline, see Deploying Java Applets With Family JRE Versions in Java Plug-in for Internet Explorer .

Additional Supported System Configurations

As of this update, support has been added for the following system configurations:

    * Internet Explorer 8
    * Windows Server 2008
    * SLES 11

Refer to the Supported System Configurations page.
Service Tag Support

Service Tag support on Solaris, Linux, and Windows is add in this release. If Service Tag software has been installed on a system where JRE 1.5.0_19 is being installed, a unique service tag is automatically created for that particular JRE instance. There is no change in the JDK/JRE installation instruction, and there is no change in the Java runtime.

Service Tag software can be downloaded from Sun Inventory. JDK and JRE service tags allow installed instances of the JDK and JRE to be discovered and registered under a user's account on Sun Connection.
Known Issues

    IE 8 Hangs with OBJECT Tag

    When an OBJECT tag is used to specify an applet, and the browser does not receive any mouse button events or keyboard events before the browser gets to the point of interpreting (executing) the OBJECT> tag, then IE 8 hangs.

    This bug is seen when an html file containing OBJECT tag is specified as a command line parameter while launching IE. For example:

    iexplorer.exe  file.html

    In this case, there is no mouse button event between invocation of IE and OBJECT tag execution.

    A workaround is to force the user to use a mouse or keyboard before IE8 reaches the tag. For example, if applet.html contains an OBJECT tag, then the following command line invocation hangs the browser:

    iexplorer.exe applet.html

    However, if you specify applet.html in another html file, as follows, then the user is forced to use the keyboard or mouse button, and the hang does not occur:

    <HTML><BODY><A href="file:applet.html"> click </A> </BODY></HT
    ML>

    Refer to CR 6825659 for further information.

Java Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) API Change

The behavior of the JNDI feature to store and retrieve Java objects in an LDAP directory has been slightly modified.

When storing a Java object in an LDAP directory, the location of the object's class file (its codebase) may be specified. Later, when restoring the original object, its codebase along with additional object data is retrieved from the directory and used by the class loader.

An object's codebase is no longer implicitly trusted. Instead, a new system property called com.sun.jndi.ldap.object.trustURLCodebase must explicitly be set to the string value true in order for a codebase to be used. Otherwise, the codebase will be ignored by the class loader when restoring a Java object, and only those class files that appear on the classpath will be recognized.

Java Management Extensions(JMX) Change
In a JMX access property file, the readwrite access no longer allows the remote createMBean and unregisterMBean operations. These must now be provided explicitly via new clauses.

The default jmxremote.access file of the JRE ($JRE_HOME/lib/management/jmxremote.access) shows what this looks like:

monitorRole  readonly
controlRole  readwrite \
            create javax.management.monitor.*,javax.management.timer.* \
            unregister

CORBA Memory Leak Fix - Special Note

This update release and revision 5.0u16-rev-b12 and subsequent updates and revisions contain a fix for 6725987. When using updates and revisions prior to these, an ORB may contain valid references (that is, a memory leak) even after calling its shutdown() and destroy() methods, and it may respond to some method calls.

With this fix, the ORB correctly cleans up and the Garbage Collector can free up the memory held by such references. Incorrect accesses to such references or methods are likely to result in a NullPointerException to the application.

Updated UTF-8 Charset Implementation

Due to security concerns, the UTF-8 charset implementation in the JRE has been updated to handle the non-shortest form of UTF-8 byte sequences, and this introduces an incompatibility from previous releases. For example, the byte sequence of 0xc0 0xaf for U+002f, which has the shortest form of 0x2f, is a malformed input to the decoding operation. More details regarding the Non-shortest form of UTF-8 can be found at:

    * Internet Explorer 8
    * Windows Server 2008
    * SLES 11

Changes in 1.5.0_17

The full internal version number for this update release is 1.5.0_17-b04 (where "b" means "build"). The external version number is 5.0u17.
Security Baseline

This update release specifies the following security baseline:
JRE Family Version Security Baseline 1.4.2 1.4.2_19

For more information about the security baseline, see Deploying Java Applets With Family JRE Versions in Java Plug-in for Internet Explorer .

OlsonData 2008i

This release contains Olson time zone data version 2008i. For more information, refer to Timezone Data Versions in the JRE Software .

    * UTF8-Shortest Form
    * UTF8 Specification

Root Certificates Included

Root Certificates are included in this release. The following root certificates have been added:

    * Camerfirma root certificates
    * T-systems root CA certificate (Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2)
    * SwissSign root certificates
